Are you
a disconcerting punk rocker? Or a discriminate rockabilly with tastes that
as of late favor only the psycho-billy sub-genre? Maybe you've found enough
retro 70's buttrock/psychedelia to make a manifesto or scene or at least a
house party. I know you've gotten past your Rival Schools phase and you
know that At the Drive In didn't pay off in the long run, but there's got
to be something between Neil diamond eight tracks, Pavement LP's, and Sonic
Youth tapes, and your old band's (god bless 'em) old half inch eight track
reels. Maybe you wanted some pop punk polish or some more of that retro
eighties gloom a la Interpol, and who can blame you. But there's nothing
left in that bowl, my friend. Just this bag of funny looking Tar next to
your dead housemate. Maybe this is not for you. Put it down and keep
walking towards the new Bonnie Raitt. JUST KEEP WALKING!!!!!!!!
Or you can sooth your nerves by indulging in The Slow Break attitude. It's
full of sass, brass, and a lot of breaking glass. Since you may not be in
the vicinity of Louisville, KY. (which currently they call base) you will
have to go check out there website (www.theslowbreak.com) or, even better
yet, go see them live! I hear they make people puke!
For their first release The Slow Break were Katie O'Brien (Drums, Vox, Guitar, Xylophone) a Santa Cruz
local, Matt Fox (Guitar, Drums, Vox, Organ) borne an' raised deep south
Indianan', Alison Lee-Whitney (Sax, Organ, Bass, Vox) hailing from Olympia
WA. Alison
has since left the band with Jason Cox (bass) and Shauna Dellecave (vocals, keyboards)
coming into the scene. |
